Relocation & Move Project Management with UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute

CPM One Source was engaged by the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute’s Administration department to provide complete Relocation Project Management and Move Management services for their 300 staff across 8 medical departments.

Jules Stein Eye Institute, located in the heart of Westwood, CA., is a “world-renowned center dedicated to the preservation of vision and the prevention of blindness.” Since its establishment in 1966, the center has grown to occupy a total of three buildings, Jules Stein, Doris Stein, and its newest addition the Wasserman building.

A Swift Move

The relocation was completed in two consecutive phases between October 17 and 31, 2014. We provided packing assistance, relocation planning for contents and IT equipment, coordination, logistics, implementation, execution and post move management.

Lead by Lizzie Zuckerman, Project Manager, Ricky Gaytan, Operations Manager and Phillip Sapon, Principal of CPM, move coordinators were assigned to each medical department as a way to streamline communications between our crew and the end users. All coordinators fulfilled their rolls tremendously and contributed greatly to the success of the project.

Furniture and medical equipment were broken down, protected, and brought to offsite CPM storage for the duration of construction. All storage items were inventoried, barcoded, and implemented into our CPM CAFM software before leaving the JSEI grounds.

Unique Challenges

The relocation was smooth and seamless for both the client and our crew. The biggest challenge faced was the magnitude of items going to offsite CPM storage. We maximized our crew and had as many hands as we could to prep, breakdown, and protect furniture and medical equipment before trucking it to our warehouse. After a full week, we left the medical areas completely vacant and ready for construction.

A successful relocation is really owed to everyone who helped coordinate, pack and move. Thanks to all those involved!
